Yesterday, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin paid an official visit to Ukraine. The Pentagon chief met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Andriy Taran.
The main messages of the visit:
- The culprit of the armed conflict in Donbass is Russia. The United States condemns the occupation of Crimea and calls on Russia to end the war in eastern Ukraine and to stop destabilizing operations in the Black Sea and along Ukraine's borders.
- The United States will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary support in the conflict with Russia. Support for Ukrainian sovereignty is unwavering.
- The United States intends to support defense reform in Ukraine until it meets the criteria for NATO membership.
- The framework agreement, signed during the visit of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington in August, provides us with strategic principles of defense partnership, and we will continue to strengthen it.
